What does a 407 proxy error mean?

A 407 error means the proxy did not accept your login. The username or password is wrong, was cut short, or was never sent at all.

The answer comes from the proxy, not from the website: your request never got that far. The usual causes are a stray space copied with the password, a username that the program shortened, a password that belongs to a different plan, or a program that does not send proxy logins at all.

Copy the username and password again from your plan page and try the simplest possible test, such as the curl command in the docs. If that works, the login is fine and the problem is in how the other program passes it. A plan that has run out of traffic or time can also answer this way.

Questions about 407 Proxy Authentication Required

Why do I get a 407 when the password is right?

Check the username. Settings are written into it, and a tool that cuts it at a hyphen or at a certain length sends something the proxy does not recognise. Also check that the plan still has traffic or time left.

Is a 407 the same as a 403?

No. A 407 comes from the proxy and is about your proxy login. A 403 comes from the website and means the site refused the request it received.
