What is proxy authentication?

Proxy authentication is how a proxy checks you are a paying customer: either a username and password, or a list of allowed IP addresses.

With a username and password, the login travels with every request and works from any network: your laptop, a server, a phone. With an allowlist, the proxy accepts any request that arrives from an address you registered, with no login at all.

BooProxies plans use a username and password. The username also carries your settings: the country, the city and the session are written into it, which is why it is longer than a normal login. A wrong or mistyped login is answered with a 407 error.

Programs handle the login in two ways. Some send it with the first request. Others wait for the proxy to ask, which it does with a 407, and send it then. Both work. A few older tools do neither, and can only use proxies that need no login.

Questions about proxy authentication

Is my proxy password the same as my account password?

No. On BooProxies each plan has its own proxy username and password, shown on the plan page. Your account password only signs you in to the website.

Can I change a proxy password?

On most BooProxies plans, yes, from the plan page. The old password stops working within about a minute and the new one takes up to two minutes to start.
